The National Academy of Sports Medicine defines a Certified Wellness Coach as a facilitator that guides and supports clients in achieving improved mental, emotional, social and physical well-being, through a holistic, comprehensive approach. I focus on nutrition, movement, sleep, recovery and mental/emotional well being. I am grateful to be a part of your journey to health and wellness.

My practice, as a certified Wellness Coach is an evidence-based approach, which combines the most current scientific knowledge, my experience and expertise, along with your priorities to create a synergistic collaboration. There is so much confusion around food. I think most people are a bit overwhelmed with all the information and latest trends. Others use food as a comfort or a reward. Do you struggle with your weight? Have you tried every diet, only to end up feeling defeated when you can’t sustain it.
Restrictive diets don’t work. First, it’s about understanding what your body needs and then creating a sustainable, enjoyable diet that nourishes your body with the building blocks to repair, regenerate and restore itself. I enjoy eating a Mediterranean diet. I love roasted veggies, baked salmon, chicken etc. I love the food I eat and look forward to every delicious meal. Movement is medicine. That is a fact! The National Academy of Sports Medicine recommends 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise per week or 75 min of vigorous activity to maintain one's health. It doesn't matter if you are just starting to move your body, want to resume an active, healthy lifestyle or want to elevate your health and fitness to the next level. Let's collaborate and create a step-by-step plan that focuses on improvement, not perfection. Steady, consistent progress over time is the key to success and creating the life of your dreams.
Did you know exercise increases Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor which increases neuroplasticity. Neuroplasticity is the brains ability to learn, adapt or even heal from a traumatic brain injury. Exercise is the best thing you can do to increase your overall quality of life, health and wellness.
I cringe when I hear people brag about a lack of sleep as if it is a good thing and a badge of honor. "Who has time to sleep"? Do you struggle to fall a sleep or have difficulty getting back to sleep? Do you think there is not enough time in the day, so sleep is the best place to skimp? How is your sleep hygiene? Restful, rejuvenating sleep is essential for proper recovery. Sleeping is a critical piece of health and wellness and affects your physical and mental health. The National Academy of Sports Medicine recommends 7-9 hours of sleep. Do you struggle with hormonal issues. Is menopause wrecking havoc on your life? I have resources to help with that, as well.
Life can be complicated and fast-paced. It‘s easy to get stuck on the hamster wheel and slowly find yourself run down and exhausted. NASM explores Allostatic load and the fact that any and all stressors in your life are a drain on bodily resources. It also states that proper recovery is as essential to one’s health and well-being as nutrition or exercise. It’s time to stop sprinting through life and find your calm, inner strength and guidance. Cultivate a mindset of gratitude and rediscover what brings you joy. Then, watch how your life shifts. Just remember to focus on what you want and know that you are worthy

My fitness journey began with a humbling moment-a failed attempt to hike Half Dome with my son during a family vacation in Yosemite. Not long after returning home, my annual physical became the catalyst for massive change. I had gained 75 pounds and my health was suffering. The choice was clear: change my lifestyle or take medication for the rest of my life. I chose change. Just over a year later, I had completely transformed my health-and now after 13 years, I'm grateful to say I'm in the best shape of my life.
I've had several careers, from firefighter to corporate executive, but the last two decades have been devoted to health and wellness. I spent many years working in the medical field, and in college convinced that becoming an RN was my calling. I loved learning about the body-but I came to realize that Western medicine didn't align with my beliefs. My passion wasn't in the diagnoses and treatment of disease within a broken system. It was educating and guiding others to build healthy lifestyles that prevent disease in the first place. Together, we can create a personalized roadmap to a life rooted in good nutrition, movement, stress management and purpose.
My path has also been shaped by profound loss. When my only child passed away four years ago, I embarked on s deeply healing and spiritual journey that has led me to forgiveness, unconditional love, peace and clarity. That experience reinforced my belief that we are all connected, each of us here to learn and grow-and to love and support one another along the way. That belief is what inspired me to create Thrive with Thomas.
